What's your poison?

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

Over the past few weeks I have been working on a short film which is based around the premise of magic and witchcraft, but with an unusual twist. For this project I have been cast as Nimue who is an immortal witch who owns and bartends in a cocktail bar. This character is very skilled with her mixology and her manipulative powers that can reveal the true and raw personalities of those she encounters. However, Nimue is a complicated character due to her trauma surrounding her murdering her ex lover, Merlin, as his true self was pure evil. Nimue has a very stubborn personality that has followed her through her many years of immortality.

Working on set has been very educational and beneficial to my progress into becoming a professional actor.

Over the shooting dates I have been challenged to develop my disciplined practice that is needed on a film set.

Each take was short and snappy with not much time to reflect as we went from one shot to another within minutes. This was difficult to adjust to at the time. However, as the filming day progressed I managed to connect deeply and quickly to my characters objectives that allowed me to jump in and out of Nimue whenever cut or action was called. I feel as if this experience has really opened my eyes to how fast paced the screen industry is, and prepared me in what to expect from a professional crew.

Stepping into such an unusual character which does not really fit my acting style has really helped me advance my skills. Over the course of this year I have aimed to break out of my comfort zone and try new things and this character certainly made me achieve this. Nimue did so by making me embrace a new acting style with confidence and the courage to not be afraid of a challenging genre.

I am very excited to see how the final product turns out after our weeks of hard work and dedication.
